How can my child get a good grade in Mrs. Garcia's class?

  • Come to class prepared: bring a pencil, paper, and other supplies that are needed to function in school.

  • Complete and turn in work on time! Don't wait until the last minute, write assignment dates in your planner and get assignments completed and turned in on time.

  • If you don't pass a test or quiz, correct it.  You can correct all test grades (tests, some quizzes, and some projects) up to passing.

How can I help my child at home?

  • Check your child's planner at least once a week.

  • Encourage your child to read at home

  •  Read with your child and talk about the books you are reading.

How important is the 6th grade STAAR test?

Sixth graders are tested in Language Arts and Math. In sixth grade there is no re-testing available for students who do not pass the STAAR test.  However, any student who fails to pass a STAAR test risks having to take additional reading and/or math classes in seventh grade in place of one of their elective classes.
